Cydia: Introduction & Guidance

Yes, you can download Cydia on your iPhone X. Anyone who has already jailbroken his iPhone or is about to jailbreak (→ iOS 11.2 – 9.3.3 Jail break) usually does this to get various App Store independent tweaks and apps from the third-party store Cydia on his iPhone. To help you get started with the Cydia Store, often referred to as the “Jailbreak App Store,” we’ve created a small introduction and guide to using Cydia.

What is Cydia?

Cydia is an App Store similar to the iOS App Store, which is only available on jailbroken iPhones, iPods and iPod touches. The difference with the Apple App Store is that Cydia apps – unlike apps from the iOS App Store – do not go through a review process. This entails some risk, but also allows the use of features that are not supported by Apple because of their ability to intervene more deeply in the Apple operating system.

When it comes to finding the right features for your jailbroken iPhone in Cydia, you’re most likely confronted with the following terms:

  • Apps: Applications like those from the Apple App Store
  • Tweaks: Extensions for apps and iOS
  • Tools: Helpful programs
  • Mods: App and iOS modifications
  • Themes: Alternative App and iOS user interfaces

Construction and use of the Cydia app

Below you can see the menu bar of the Cydia app with the 5 menu items. What is hidden behind each category, you’ll find below under the respective heading.
